Summer is here which means the mountain snowpack is dropping while the river levels are rising. For boaters and whitewater addicts this is peak season and there is no better place to spend a June day than paddling on Colorado’s only wild and scenic river. The headwaters of the Cache la Poudre originate near the northern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park and flow eastward towards the city of Fort Collins. From hairball class V in The Narrows to mellow class II on the well-worn Filter Plant run, the river provides a multitude of sections that cater to boaters(and tubers) of all ability levels. From lush green river banks, to towering pine trees and abundant bird life, Keller Williams put it best by simply stating, “Poudre Canyon is from a dream.
